AMCC tells why Alternate Medical techniques are better than conventional ones

Alternative Medicine treatments existed way before the so called ‘scientific’ and conventional approach towards medicine - Allopathy came into being. But then came a time when the conventional medicine works took the world by storm. People extensively depended on the allopathy medicines and treatments without realizing the side effects. But now, they are waking up to alternate medicines as a way out.

Alternative Medicine refers to a system which bears a difference from the widely followed conventional medicine. It is in contrast with the allopathic system. Allopathy consists of an art of labeling, called ‘diagnosis’ and is held in very high esteem. Medical diagnosis simply allows a doctor to link the set of symptoms of a patient to a disease. Widely used method for this is a team differential and tests conducted on the patients to verify the presence of a disease. By doing this, doctors get a line of sight to follow. They treat the disease in order to get rid of the symptoms. This simplifies the process of treating a patient. But AMCC Calcutta reveres alternate medicine as more effective as compared to the conventional diagnostic methods.

Symptoms are the resultant of an internal pathological process. If the cause is not removed, as soon as the medication is stopped, the symptoms will re-appear. This is exactly what allopathic medicines largely do. They suppress the symptoms and present the disease as treated where as in reality; the underlying condition still remains uncured and resurfaces after a while. Holistic medicinal approach focuses on the cause of a disease and work towards eliminating that. So it isn’t like if you stop taking the medicines after a while, then the disease will reappear. Alternate Medicine techniques remove the disease from the root and do not cause dependence.

It, in fact, liberates you; by removing the causes, it sets you free from symptoms, from drugs, from disability, from suffering and from dependence on healthcare practitioners. In the conventional system, patients run around from one doctor to another, undergoing various tests, many of which are futile and wanton. As per AMCC, the patient is a whole unit encompassing body, mind and soul, and must be treated as such. Holistic system uncovers the original contributory factors to current problems including the exact cause of the condition that presents itself - and the precise way that the body chooses to benefit most from treatment.

Alternative Medical Council Calcutta : Aroma Therapy

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being.Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.
A form of alternative medicine, aromatherapy is gaining momentum. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function.

Essential Oils

Essential oils, or aromatherapy oils, are the fragrant essence of a plant. These highly concentrated liquid oils are the foundation of aromatherapy, which is based on the idea that the aromatic oil from a plant has healing properties. Essential oils should not be confused with perfumes or other fragrance oils.

Application Of Essential Oils

How you apply essential, or aromatherapy, oils has an impact on their healing capabilities. Because they are so highly concentrated, it is not often recommended that you apply essential oils in their pure form directly to the skin. You will experience better results if you use small amounts of the oils diluted in water or with a carrier oil or massage lotion.

Safety With Aromatherapy Oils

Aromatherapy has many benefits, but it is imperative that safety precautions are taken when handling essential oils. While they may seem harmless (they are extracted from plants, after all), many need to be diluted before applying directly to the skin.

Massage Therapy

Massage is more than just a way to pamper yourself. Massage is a powerful tool to help you take charge of your well-being. Massage is generally considered part of complementary medicine and can help relax and energize you. It can also give you benefits in reducing stress, anxiety, headaches, fibromyalgia, insomnia, tissue strains, pain, and muscle tension. Most people can benefit from massage therapy.

  • The term “massage therapy” includes many techniques, and the type of massage given usually depends on your needs and physical condition.
  • Massage therapy dates back thousands of years. References to massage appear in ancient writings from China, Japan, India, and Egypt.
  • Massage therapists work on muscle and other soft tissue to help you feel better.
  • In Swedish massage, the therapist uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration, and tapping.
  • Massage therapy is sometimes done using essential oils as a form of aromatherapy.

Which Massage Styles Are Best?

Different massage styles are popular at different times. Styles used in massage therapy range from long, smooth strokes to short, percussive strokes. Some massage therapists use oils and lotions; others do not. Most massage therapists have clients unclothe for a massage, but some do not. A massage can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours.

What the Science Says About the Safety and Side Effects of Massage Therapy ?

Massage therapy appears to have few risks when performed by a trained practitioner. However, massage therapists should take some precautions in people with certain health conditions.

  • In some cases, pregnant women should avoid massage therapy. Talk with your health care provider before getting a massage if you are pregnant.
  • People with some conditions such as bleeding disorders or low blood platelets counts should avoid having forceful and deep tissue massage.
  • People who take anticoagulants (also known as blood thinners) also should avoid them.
  • Massage should not be done in any potentially weak area of the skin, such as wounds.
  • Deep or intense pressure should not be used over an area where the patient has a tumor or cancer, unless approved by the patient’s health care provider.

Auricular Therapy

images (4)

Auricular therapy is a healing practice of the third century wherein the practitioner uses needles at acupuncture points on the outer ear that correspond to specific parts of the human body. This technique is a particularly effective treatment for many conditions, including addictions, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and musculo-skeletal and central nervous system disorders.
Auriculotherapy, or auricular therapy, or ear acupuncture, or auriculo acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine based on the idea that the ear is a microsystem which reflects the entire body, represented on the auricle, the outer portion of the ear. Conditions affecting the physical, mental or emotional health of the patient are assumed to be treatable by stimulation of the surface of the ear exclusively.

Auricular Acupuncture

Your ear, is a microsystem of your body. Therefore, auricular acupuncture, along with reflexology and Sooji which are hand and foot microsystems, may be utilized to treat a wide variety of conditions. Each modality can be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments.

Mapping the Ear

images (5)The map on the ear is in form of an inverted fetus with all the fine details of the anatomical, physiological, and emotional body represented. The tissue of the ear is unique and has functions in addition to our sense of hearing. The ear is the first organ to develop to its full size and become fully functional about 18 weeks after conception and is one of a few anatomical structures composed of tissue from each of the 3 primary types (endo, ecto, mesoderm) in the developing embryo.

Ear Seeds

ear-acupuncture2This non-invasive technique can help manage stress, pain and a variety of other symptoms. Using special adhesive dots, the practitioner attaches small and inconspicuous metal beads to stimulate specific points on your outer ear. By pressing these ear seeds, you can stimulate your own acupuncture point for up to two weeks.

Tei shin (needle-free acupuncture)

earTei shin is another, needle less alternative for children and adults uncomfortable with needles. The practitioner manipulates acupuncture points on your body or ear with a specially designed, slender probe. No needles.

History

images (6)
Ear acupuncture has proven to be an efficient method of treating a wide variety of conditions, from headaches and allergies to addictions and pain disorders. Although acupuncture evolved in the context of Asian medicine, the specialty of ear acupuncture was developed in western Europe. It’s foundations laid by Dr. Paul Nogier, a neurologist working in France in the 1950’s, it was deepened and expanded by Frank Bahr M.D. and physical medicine specialists in Germany over the following decades.

The earliest use of ear acupuncture, like body acupuncture, dates back to ancient China. Auricular acupuncture as we know it today however is largely the outgrowth of work begun by Dr. Paul Nogier, a neurologist trained in acupuncture. He found that the ear holds all of the acupuncture points of the body plus more detailed physiological and anatomical correspondences and found that stimulation of these points were very effective in alleviating pain and other symptoms. When an auricular acupuncture point on the ear is “active” it expresses as increased tenderness on stimulation and a higher electrical conductivity. This indicates pathology in the corresponding body tissue or function and makes auricular acupuncture a useful form of assessment of ailments. The texture, colour, skin changes, veins, etc., in different areas of the ear can be indicators of the state of health.
The use of ear acupuncture in trauma and disaster

Auricular trauma “Community-style” acupuncture is well suited to group treatment conditions faced in disaster settings. Treatment is easily integrated into a wide range of settings: hospitals, outdoor clinics, on a curbside, etc. The volunteer group, Acupuncturists Without Borders, provided support to both relief workers and victims in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan in the fall of 2001. Treatments are easily given while people are fully clothed. A set protocol developed for use in addiction treatment programs through the National Acupuncture Detox Association (NADA) is an effective way to help people facing enormous stress, anger, depression, fatigue and other emotional and physical pain. It has been used in thousands of programs around the world. Those receiving treatment do not have to wait to feel its impact, as relaxation generally occurs within minutes. Survivors of traumatic events report ear acupuncture to be useful in alleviating symptoms of Acute Stress Disorder. Recipient surveys show increased mental clarity, ability to cope, alertness, ability to sleep, reductions of pain and muscle spasm, depression, anxiety, and intrusive recall. These simple acupuncture treatments can have a calming and transformative effect without requiring the traumatized client to talk. They can be in a state of extreme dissociation and still benefit.

AMCC offers a bright career as a Naturopath

Medicines and practices other than allopathy have recently become quite popular. One of the reasons for the same could be the western culture adopting alternative ways of treatment. Although Naturopathy was always a part of Indian ancient culture, with time it was losing its sheen. But seems the wind has changed his directions. Various celebrities in India and abroad are soon turning towards naturopathy. Even our country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has faith in Naturopathy. This is exactly why he recommended this alternate treatment method to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Looking at the current trend, Naturopathy is becoming a rage among people. More and more number of people is depending on Naturopathy. This only means that there will be an increase in the demand of Naturopaths in near future. And even then, this trend will continue for long. Alternate Medical Council Calcutta (AMCC) offers various certified courses in Naturopath.

On the contrary to general public notion, Naturopathy works with and not against the standard allopathic medicines. But unlike them, Naturopathy has no side effects. . Treatments are natural and non-invasive and include herbal remedies, lifestyle changes, dietary modifications and in some cases other complementary techniques including massage, acupuncture or aromatherapy. A career in naturopathy is lucrative and knowledge enriching. In India, as of now there are only a handful of institutes offering dedicated courses in Naturopathy and AMCC holds a prowess in offering the Naturopathy related courses by incorporating an extensive curriculum, taught by an experienced faculty.

There are many job avenues open in Naturopathy and to top it, a qualified naturopath can start its own venture. They are paid pretty well, especially in developed countries like The USA and The UK where a naturopath earns nothing less than $15000-20000/annum.

Juice Therapy

amcc calcuttaJuice plays a great role in eliminating diseases and helps in the process of cleaning the body. The alkaline mineral present in the juice, loosens the acid poisons in the body, dumping them into the blood stream which are further eliminated from the body by various organs of elimination. It is a fact that, sooner a person starts drinking an abundant quantity of juice, sooner he will begin to cooperate with nature. Juice of fruits and vegetables must be consumed fresh, to get the maximum benefit out of it. One should extract juice only when required and consume fresh. Juice should not be gulped; it should be consumed slowly in small sips. This process helps the juice to be mixed with saliva. Further the sugar present in the juice is digested with the help of digestive juices present in the saliva. Juice is easily digested within 20-30 minutes and is quickly mixed in the blood. If the juice is consumed for health purpose; do not add sugar, salt or other liking for taste. Proper juice diet and raw food plays a great role in maintaining the proper balance of formation and destruction of the cells and blood corpuscles present in the body.

In some common ailments, juices of fruits and vegetables are found beneficial in their treatments that are mentioned below:

They supply needed elements for the body's own healing activity and cell regeneration, thereby speeding up the recovery.

Precautions

Certain precautions are, however, necessary in adopting a diet of raw juices:

amcc calcutta1. All juices should be made fresh immediately before drinking. Canned and frozen juices should not be used.

2. Only washed fresh ripe fruits and vegetables, preferably organically grown, should be used for extraction of juices.

3. Only as much juice as needed for immediate consumption should be extracted. Raw juices oxidise rapidly and lose their medicinal value in storage, even under refrigeration.

4. The quality of the juices has a distinct bearing on the results obtained. In case of incomplete extraction of juices, their effective power is proportionately reduced due to the absence of the vitamins and enzymes which are left behind in fibre and the pulp.

5. If juices are too sweet they should be diluted in water on 50 : 50 basis or mixed with other less sweet juices. This is especially important in some specific conditions such as diabetes, hypoglycaemia, arthritis and high blood pressure.

6. Goitrogens, found most commonly in cruciferous (brassica) vegetables can affect thyroid function in some individuals. If you don’t currently have thyroid issues and follow healthy eating habits by rotating greens this should not be an issue.

Brassicas are: bok choy, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, collard greens, cress, daikon, horseradish, kale, kohlrabi, maca, mizuna, mustard greens and seeds, radish, rapeseed, rocket, shepherd's purse, swede, turnip, wasabi, watercress

Oxalic acid, found in cooked spinach, kale, cabbage and other foods listed on the Oxalic Acid section, can block calcium absorption which can lead to kidney stones, gall stones, thyroid problems and other conditions. Read more
